Further Skills Development - Finished product 1

For this entry I have placed in my final version of my front cover. The image has been sharpened and the brightness has also been changed as well. I created a button sell and changed the background colour after careful consideration. I used the lasso tool and pen tool to combine the sell lines and the background to make it easier to move. I decide to change the colours of my sell lines as well. And I have changed the colours of my sell lines

Photo shoot images

This was the photo shoot for my product. Two of the images i ended up using for my product. I used two main lighting effects from the photo shoot involving the bowens flash kit. The two techniques were narrow and broad lighting. Some of the images worked really well but some didn't. This was because the shadow doesn't the subjects face wasn't affective and made the image too dark.

Your life, Your times photoshop skills development

a

a
This is the recent version of my magazine front cover. For my front cover I have used the Photoshop skills that I have learnt of the past few months in order to create cell lines and change imagery. Obviously this version here doesn't have an image as of yet as it is in its early development stage. But I have still learn these skills and I have shown this in other blog imagery. Firstly there is the ability to use and download the fonts and brushes and to use the brush tool. The brush tool is located at the far left of the screen and after downloading them you can create an effect on your imagery for example in my Christmas cd cover I used brushes to create snowflakes and I plan to use them here. And downloading fonts is just the same as in in design.

Secondly there is the ability to create shapes or text boxes. Both options are available on the left hand side again. By pressing the shape tools whether it is the elliptical shape tool or the rectangle shape tool, you can draw your own shapes. This then allowed me to make button sells from this as I was then able to write text in them. I think I may choose to use this on my front cover as it allows th me to use it for whatever I want. Whether it becomes a reward sell line. Another tool I leant to use was the healing brush tool which I used a few months ago. This allows you to change the look of the model in the photo and enhance their appearance.

Finally to enhance text on Photoshop I can use the FX button located at the bottom of the layers section. This FX tool allows me to add depth to my text and create an outline like with stroke. The next tools involve the colour of the imagery. To change it you can use one of two tools. The first is the colour/contrast tool. This allows me to change the colour of text or imagery and there are various places on the screen to do this. Also there is the cross processing tool. I have already tested this before on other subjects and in this blog there is evidence for me doing this. This allows me to adjust the layer curves and change the tone and colour of an image.

Your time, your life Journalism skills development.

This is the current version of my magazine article which will form the make-up for my DPS. In this article I have looked at, learnt and used a large amount of skills in order for my overall product to be of good quality. One of the skills I have learnt is how to use narrative. narrative comes in various forms. It comes in 1st person which uses words such as 'I' and tends to form the background for personal opinionated pieces. Then there is 2nd person which commonly uses 'you' and is used to make the writer look like they are having a one way conversation with the reader. Then there is 3rd person which is more of a collective narrative which makes the audience feel more of a part of the story itself. I also learnt that you can use a combination of narrative types. For example in my article I have used 1st person and 3rd person.

Furthermore, in my time I have also learnt about what type of magazine I want to have in terms of content. By this, I mean that I have learnt that a magazines content can be editorial, opinionated, a review and many other types. My article itself is an adaptation of all three of these features. This leads me onto the language skills that I have learnt. For example I have learnt about colloquial language and that it is everyday spoken language. Also that this has an affect on the chosen audience as they can either feel more engaged in the piece or withdrawn depending on how accurately you have chosen your audience. Secondly to add to colloquial language I have also used youth orientated slang and this specific words and how we have shortened our MLU by using contractions such as can't and shouldn't.

Finally, I have also learnt how to use more expressive language in my writing. For example using euphemisms and puns to illustrate a certain point of view or to make the atmosphere more light-heartened while reading. Other expressive example include hyperboles which are exaggerated statements. These make the reader feel the story is more serious. journalism itself involves a lot of research and we have also done that as we have researched the most common features mentioned in this piece and the facts and figures for the article itself.

Christmas CD Cover

a
This is my Christmas CD cover. To start i saved an image of santa claus and saved as a JPEG. I then placed this into my document as my background. I also downloaded a Christmas tree to add to the overall christmas effect.  Then it came to the main part of this exercise which is the brushes. For this I simply downloaded brushes from www.brusheezy.com. and added to my downloads. Then I clicked on the brush tool itself. This then gave me an option towards the top of the screen where i could preset the brush to be whatever I wanted. So I used the snowflake brush and went over my product. Finally i save this as a JPEG and saved it.

Your Life, Your times in design skills development

So far in in-design I have developed many skills. One skill I have learnt is to place drop caps in. This is done by going to the paragraph formatting controls and accessing the drop cap option. You can also change how many worlds that you want to have a drop cap. For example i have made my drop cap ENGLAND. Another good skill I have acquired is to place my article into in-design this is done by creating a rectangle frame and then placing the images or text in. Obviously as I am placing my article in, I need to have columns. To do this I simply go to layouts and then change the amount of columns I want. From this i also accessed the margin and ruler option so I could create the outline, like i have around this document.

Quote inserts are also a very important part of my project in the sense that they give the another option for my audience to read and look at. This can be done by creating another text box and just warping the text around the quote insert. When I started in-design and i was placing my article in I had difficulty in making the text spread across the 3+ columns. I learnt that I could manipulate the text by creating a text flow. This option came as a red small box option after I had placed the article in which allowed me to make the text flow across two pages.
